Photography Touching Real Life – Amy’s Story

Being a Maternity, Baby & Family photographer is not just about taking some photographs for clients to cherish forever. Most of the time we are touched by our client’s stories and we emotionally connect with them even without noticing.

When Amy came back to my studio for her Maternity Bump Photo Session I knew that this one would be a very special photoshoot for both of us. Firstly, as I photographed her 2 children before, I was so happy to know I am going to document another milestone for this lovely family. And most importantly it made me feel so emotional to know how brave she is to decide to have a photo session even after having some unbelievably sad news during her 20th week scan.

If you have ever had a baby, then you know how important these scans are. You feel so excited to see your baby on the screen no matter if you are a first time mum or already have had children before.  The only thing you want to hear during these scans is your baby is doing so well and developing healthy. However sometimes you hear some news you would never ever expect to hear.

This gorgeous mum to be Amy was told during her 20th scan that her precious baby is severely poorly. This is a very rare, critical heart condition called Truncus Arteriosus and it only occurs in less than one out of 10,000 births. She has been also told her baby might have some brain abnormalities.

As you could all imagine her excitement about having the 3rd baby disappeared and her joy turned upside down. Now she faces a wait with anxiety and fear for tons of test results to come back from the hospital.  She said none of these tests hurt her physically as her body in state of shock. The results of amino fluid test thankfully came back clear. However, she is still waiting to find out about some result of chromosome tests. The severity of brain abnormalities won’t be known until her baby is born.

The only thing she can do now is wait, pray and try to go back to her normality as she has 2 young children. This is one of the reasons why she wanted to have a maternity photo shoot as she just wanted to document her precious baby bump no matter what the results are and how devastated she is. She is still enjoying her baby movements inside her and she wants to cherish these beautiful moments.

She wanted to share her story as she would like to create awareness about Truncus Arteriosus and tell other mums to keep strong whatever you are being told during your scan.

I would like to thank Amy millions of times for coming to my studio for her maternity photo session and most importantly for sharing her touching story with us. I hope her story brings other mothers hope and strength. Never be alone, share your concerns and worries; there is someone else out there facing the same challenges.

I would like to thank Rachael Robinson’s Glamourfied beauty team for Amy’s beautiful make up and her stunning hair. I highly recommend Glamourfied, it was lovely to have them setup their beauty studio; an amazing complementary service.
